What does a Marine Pilot Make, What is the salary of a Maritime Pilot?
Trainee Pilots start on a salary of app $86,367.- USD.
This is annual during a 7 month practical training period 2025. As you progress through the pilot classes, salaries increase substantially:
Pilot Class IV - £86,633 GPB, or $105,000.- USD
Pilot Class III - £95,828 GPB,
Pilot Class II - £106,703 GPB,
and Pilot Class I - £122,422 GPB, or $153,478.- USD
What does a Marine Pilot do? For Example on January 2025 for Port of London, a Marine Pilot with the PLA is responsible for guiding vessels of all types, from large container ships and tankers to cruise ships and warships, safely along strong tidal Rivers. This includes navigating complex turns, passing landmarks and bridges, and ensuring the safe passage of these vessels into, out of and around the PLA. They work 24/7, 365 days a year in various conditions to keep trade and visitors flowing.
